Without a backend the RAK10701-Plus stays in LinkCheck mode and shows only half of its values. Connect your The Things Network application to fieldtester.io, and the display shows uplink RSSI, SNR, distance to the gateways and packet loss.
On its own, the RAK10701-Plus only measures what it receives itself: the downlink from the gateway. How well the network hears your tester – uplink RSSI and SNR, packet loss, the distance to the gateways – can only be calculated on the network side. RAK does that only on its own WisGate gateways.
Without one, the display stays half empty, exactly where it matters for planning coverage: you see that the gateway reaches you, but not whether it hears you.
fieldtester.io takes over this part. It reads every uplink from The Things Network, evaluates all gateways that received it and sends signal, distance and packet loss back to the tester within seconds. No RAK gateway, no software of your own, set up in minutes.

Check your LoRaWAN coverage through The Things Network – with uplink signal values, gateway distances and packet loss right on the display. No RAK gateway of your own needed.
Without a backend the RAK10701-Plus shows only half of its values. fieldtester.io answers every uplink, so the display shows uplink RSSI and SNR, the distance to the gateways, packet loss and the number of gateways, without a RAK gateway of your own. With Pro every point is also recorded and can be exported.
At the moment fieldtester.io supports the RAK10701-Plus, the RAK10701-P and -L, the RAK10706 and the Adeunis FTD. Write to us with the model name: other testers that expect a reply from a backend can usually be added.
Free stores your account and, per tester, its IDs, the last contact and a packet counter, but no positions. Pro also stores every measurement point with position and gateways for 365 days. The API key of your webhook is never stored. Deleting your account deletes everything at once.
Free deliberately stores no positions: what is not stored cannot get lost. Recording, keeping and exporting surveys is what Pro pays for, and it keeps Free free.
Monthly or yearly through Paddle, our reseller. Paddle accepts credit cards, PayPal and other methods depending on your country, issues the invoice and calculates the taxes. You can cancel at any time; Pro then stays active until the end of the paid period.
The RAK10701-Plus uses a different protocol from the earlier RAK10701-P. It accepts the older replies but leaves uplink RSSI and distance blank. fieldtester.io speaks both: it recognises a Plus by its first message and asks once on the dashboard whether a tester is a RAK10701-P.
Distances need a GPS fix on the tester and a public location on the gateway.
